“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery” – Mark Van Doren
On the very auspicious occasion of Teacher’s Day, Retail Lab introduced its very first event, ever – #GuruSpeak. Scheduled to be an annual phenomenon; Retail Lab’s aim will be to invite eminent personalities from the industry each year with the hope that their experiences of the real world scenario might inspire and rouse the students. We at Retail Lab strongly believe that there is no greater teacher than the wisdom which can be derived from the life experiences of others.
The inaugural #GuruSpeak was marked by the presence of a very charismatic author, entrepreneur and teacher, Dr. Radhakrishnan Pillai. Apart from being the author of the bestseller “Corporate Chanakya”, Dr. Pillai is also the Founder-director of Chanakya Institute of Public Leadership (CIPL) and is the recipient of the very prestigious Sardar Patel International Award (2009), for his research and contribution in the field of Management and Industrial Development. He also has over 200 articles published in his name and is a strategy consultant to more than 200 organizations.
Dr. Pillai, apart from being a part of the Department of Philosophy, University of Mumbai, has also completed his MA in Sanskrit and holds a Doctorate in the same subject. He has conducted an extensive research on Kautaliya’s Arthashastra, the very well know book of management from 4th century B.C. from Chinmaya International Foundation (CIF), Kerala, under the guidance of Dr. Gangadharan Nair.
Being an expert on the teachings of the greatest teacher this country has ever seen – Chanakya; Dr. Pillai delivered an enriching lecture on how those same principles can be applied today and the relevance that they hold in present day business situations. Stressing on the importance of being numero uno in our chosen fields he cited examples from the Arthashastra itself about the qualities that a good leader should possess. Drawing a parallel between the grand knigs of yester years and the star CEOs of our generation, the lecture was a treasure trove of immense comprehension. Dr. Pillai’s enthusiasm and his quirky deliverance left the students wanting more.
We at Retail Lab are immensely thankful to Dr. Radhakrishnan Pillai, without whom the event would never have been such a grand success. Also, we take this opportunity to thank our esteemed faculty and wish them all a very Happy Teacher’s Day. We aspire to invite many more Gurus from all walks of life to our college and continue the work that has been started.
