It was a moment of great pride for the students of the various institutes under Somaiya group. The esteemed Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Prithviraj Chavan visited the Somaiya Vidyavihar campus on 11th August on the occasion of the International Youth Day. The program was organized in association with a leading Marathi TV Channel Zee 24 Taas (Zee 24 hours). The interaction was aired on it on 11th August between 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The show was a huge success wherein the Chairperson of Somaiya Group, Mr. Sameer Somaiya, revered dignitaries, esteemed faculty members and students from all the genres across Somaiya group interacted with the Chief Minister. The program started with him addressing the vast audience on the contribution of youth in the development of Indian economy. He also highlighted areas of further improvisation and the means to implement these changes. The event progressed with the interactive session in which the students raised various concerns on their part with the CM and he clarified them with utmost clarity and patience.
The interaction began with students asking him why he chose to enter politics when he had a rich academic background of being associated with institutes such as BITS Pilani and University of California. The students also raised concerns spanning various areas such as women safety and reservations in Maharashtra, the current controversies going on in the UPSC exam and his take on the merger of Maharashtra Board syllabus with the CBSE board syllabus. On a lighter note he also shared interesting excerpts from his college life.
Everyone present there was charmed by his humble nature and the patience with which he addressed all the concerns. It was really appreciative that he was able to devote time his precious time from his busy schedule to address a section of youth of the country.
