K J Somaiya Institute Of Management Studies And Research presents Samavesh 2011 held on
16th and 17th of December .
Samavesh which means absorption and assimilation of thoughts and ideas by dignitaries saw
a series of panel discussions and deliberations on : “India Reaching New Heights”.
The first day started off with a bang by the International Business Society, IBS@ SIMSR with
Mr. Rohit Pandya, General Manager, ECGC Bank speaking about the : “Emerging Trends In
International Trade & Cross Border Investments Of MNEs” also dwelt on the implications of
overall risk management for companies with significant multinational operations. Mr. Tarun
Sharma, Assistant General Manager – Credit Lines, EXIM Bank of India gave a very insightful
presentation on the role of EXIM Bank in India and the importance of the credit lines given
by the EXIM Bank to various countries. Mr. Sharma also spoke at length about the role and
relevance of the World Bank in the growth of international trade and cross border investments
including project reports.
Post-lunch the Entrepreneurship session was the “ Story” of Samyak S Chakrabarty, Managing
Director, Electronic Youth Media & President, Concreat Communications followed by a panel
discussion on “Challenges and Opportunities in the e-Business & IT Sector” by successful
entrepreneurs like Mr. Akshay Shah, Founder & COO, iWeb Technology Solutions Pvt. Ltd and
Mr. Samarjeet Singh, Director &Co-Founder, Iksula and was moderated by Mr. Vikas Chauhan,
Co-Founder at PRAVIS Retail.
The second day of Samavesh took off with the Human Resources Case study competition –
Human Equations, in which the teams from SIBM, Pune and NMIMS, Mumbai bagged the 1st
and the 2nd position respectively. Mr Deepak Chawla , Head HR , Reliance ADA group spoke
to the SIMSR students about “Integrating People & Processes” which was followed by a panel
discussion by Mr. Vijay Paradkar – Vice President – M&A, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited;
Mr. Kumar Priyaranjan , Senior Vice President , Corporate HR, Raychem RPG (P) Limited; Mr.
Saurabh Singh, Senior General Manager, Human Resources, ICICI Bank; Mr. Ganesh Ram, Head
HR, Oracle and Mr. Narayan Hariharan , Head HR, Adani Enterprises.
The Information Technology chapter was on “Emerging Trends in IT Industries” with keynote
speakers Mr. Neerajkumar Dubey, Consulting Senior Practice Director, Oracle Financial Services
Software and Mr. Rajesh K Shewani, Technical Sales Leader, Business Analytics, IBM India
Pvt. Ltd. The post lunch session was on Operations and “Products in Transition”by Mr. Ashok
Asawale, Vice President BPM & SYSSTECH, Head IT – Mahindra & Mahindra.
The culminating event was a panel discussion on Corporate Social Responsibility, “A Genuine
Concern for the Society or a Marketing Gimmick?” by Mr. Venkat Rolla, Group Head – CSR, RPG
Foundation; Mr. Milind Ambadkar, Associate Director, Cognizant Technology Solutions; Mr.
Mathan Varkey, Senior Vice President, GiveIndia and Ms. Shweta Chari, CEO, Toybank. In a nut
shell, it was a Samavesh of thoughts and ideas that culminated into an enriching experience for
one and all.
