Inter-Management Institute Marketing Communication Strategy Competition

Connecting Thoughts, People and Ideas!

 

DraftFCB+Ulka Comstrat, now in its 17th year, was the first ever case-study competition in the area of communications, to be organized among management students in the country. Leading advertising and communications company DraftFCB+Ulka Advertising along with K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research have pioneered this concept. The case study competition aims to bring together the collective intellect in the top management institutes across the country by providing an excellent forum for young minds to share their ideas and strategic initiatives.

Over the years SIMSR DraftFCB+Ulka Comstrat has given B-school students across India an opportunity to work on live case studies of some of India’s leading brands like Colgate, Marico Parachute, ITC, TVS, Tata Indica, Indian Oil Corporation, Asian Paints, Hero Honda, Tata Sky and Titan. The case study for Comstrat 2011 was on BRU World Café. The teams were expected to outline a comprehensive communication strategy for BRU World Café to build a strong brand positioning enabling them to differentiate their brand in this cluttered café space.

Of over 50 entries received, the top 6 shortlisted teams from JBIMS, MDI, MICA, Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research, NMIMS and SIMSR fought for the ultimate glory! Judging them were industry stalwarts like Mr Omkar Kore, Marketing Manager, OOH, HUL, Mr. Kinjal Medh, COO Cognito Consultancy Mr Vidyadhar Wabgaonkar, V.P. strategic planning at DraftFCB+Ulka and Mr. Dorab Sopariwala, renowned consultant to DraftFCB+Ulka, The winning team of COMSTRAT 2011 was decided last evening, following a grueling day of presentations from the six finalist teams. Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, emerged the victor in this competition. The winning team was very comprehensive and their plan addressed all the key issues. Also, their ideas were implementable and doable, and were presented very well.

The other top three finishing teams were:
First Place – NMIMS, Mumbai – Dinesh Yegireddi, Sapna Kalmadi, Mohita Jajodia

Second Place – KJ Somaiya Institute of Management studies and Research, Mumbai – Shreya Bhattacharji, Aditya Nair, Atul Mirje

Third Place – Welingkar, Mumbai –  Raashi Mehra, Karan Bavishi, Aditya Nagavekar

Speaking about the event, Dr. Suresh Ghai, Director General of SIMSR, said, “This year’s competition has raised the bar in terms of the ideas and the quality of the projects”.

The forum offered an excellent opportunity for the industry to build an interface with budding advertising talent and also offered a platform for young minds to hone their skills working on live case studies.
