SIMSR finance conference 2011

The dream envisioned by the finance department of K.J. Somaiya Institue of Management Studies and Research materialized in form of the first ever SIMSR finance conference – SIFICO. 19th Feb, 2011 saw the dawn of SIFICO 2011 were in many people thronged the portals of the college on the eve of event. The day was marked by the inauguration of SIFICO by Mr. Hemadri Bhattarcharya – VP Tata Capital and Mr. Sunil Gurbaxani – SVP Axis Bank, who were also the key note speakers for the forenoon session. While Mr. Hemadri Bhattarcharya spoke on the equity markets, strength of dollar and likes Mr. Sunil Gurbaxani addressed the audience on innovation in the banking industry. Both the speakers shared their their expertise on the respective topics which served as food for corporate thoughts for the guest and students alike. Followed by which we had industry people, academician and students who presented research papers on various topics like” Risk Mitigation Strategy based on Price Deviations from Strike Price”, “Impact of FII flow on sensex”, “Financial inclusion on inclusive growth”, “Factors affecting commodity- Sugar” and many more. In short there were plethora of topics like equities, commodities, MFI, mutual funds, risk management etc on which the participants presented. In total we had around 25 research papers that were presented in three sessions- two of which ran parallel with each other. The session was a win win situation; while the students and others got insights on various topics the researchers received valuable feedback both from the session chairperson and other researchers. At the end of the day it was an enriching experiences where in everyone had some take away in one form or the other.  To sum it all SIFICO was an effective industry-institute interface and an ideal platform for researchers to test their research right from the hypothesis to the analysis and conclusion.
